Wear gloves and safety glasses. Remember that most cleaners are flammable and should be used outdoors away from open flames. Never remove any parts from a phonograph motor with tension in the springs.

The Victor single barrel two spring motor and its big brother four spring was introduced in 1918. Possibly one of the best wind-up phonograph motors ever produced. The simple design of it makes it an easy rebuild and perfect for the beginner. THE FEAR OF SPRINGS: This video is not intended to wash away the fear of springs. "In A Clock Store" by Victor Concert Orchestra - This is a well recorded Victor Scroll record. It's very loud and clear with so many sound effects, makes me wonder if its a demo record of some sort.

Victor Credenza lid damper refurb. part one
That’s a cool piece. But I can tell you it’s definitely older than 70s. It still has the old RCA lightning bolt logo on everything. Those were pretty much done by about 1967 or 68.
I want two spring motor gramanphone,do you send to me
Thank you very much!
Muchas gracias
Bless you for these videos. You’ve taken the time to show step-by-step, how it’s done - and it’s just GREAT to see. I’ve been inside a couple of these machines over the years, and have figured out the basics - but you’ve taken it to the next level. Thanks SO much.
Le interesaria venderlo????
I no longer have it.
I have restored one 130 model
Very good video and well explained .I have an Jaa engine,US Made Iwiil try to fix it,I learn plenty watching the program.Very professional.
You’re amazing
Ah the ceramic cartridge... most were absolute drudge and wear out records three times as fast. Best substitute an entry level moving magnet cartridge that tracks five times lower and an aftermarket phono preamp which are cheap and easy to find these days. Your records and ears will thank you.
WOW!
Your video was very helpful. I have a Granada that the bottom platter was rubbing the induction magnets. I did not realize that the screw on the bottom adjusted the platter height. Now it’s perfect. The only question I have is how to eliminate the hum on the coils? It’s not super loud but it does hum loud enough to hear coming up through the board. The coils get warm but not really too hot to the touch. Wondering if you can offer any advice? Thanks!
The sound comes from the paper insulation in the coils and depends on how well they have aged through the years. An induction motor stored in a bad environment (damp basements or extreme temperature changes) will usually be worse. The only true fix would be to have the coils re-wound. You can somewhat reduce the hum with new and thicker felt washers between the mounting bolts (motor / motorboard)
My husband came to this video for hope🎉s of repairing a 1918 Victor Victrola Talking machine...l found it on the roadside for $25.00 all needles and records and the original paper work.....This video that you have made is a very informative and successful...we now are dancing to the very oldies....Thankyou...sincerelySam
Excellent explanation 👍👍👌
I fixed up my Credenza dampers and they still work perfectly but it was 20 years ago so even after watching this video I can't remember any details except those leather cups! :)
My buddy and I moved a Muntz combo console when we were in eighth grade. Figure about 14 years old. Wheeled it on a cart up a big hill about two miles from where he lived. We were tired. It had been raining all day. It was extra heavy being wet and slippery. We set about taking it down the walk out basement stairs. Me on the bottom walking backwards and he on the top. About part way down I didn't think I could manage anymore. But I had to because there was no way to set it down. So damn heavy and very frightening to realize you've got to succed. I've moved and picked up and carried too many heavy things. Thankfully I'm not disabled. But I've dealt with bulging discs and chronic back pain. I'm also somehow 2-1/2" shorter than I used to be... Be careful, but get at it and get it done!
Hi @childude2007 , I am searching for same governor, I am record player collector. I have 7000 records and 70 Record players in total. If you can help me with above part it will be grateful so that I can restore record player.
Are you still out there and kicking?
I know this is an older video series, but it’s exactly what I need as I’m going to attempt to rebuild my VV4-3 single barrel (2 spring) motor. It looks exactly like this, only no speed indicator needle to deal with. I’m a tinkerer, but never done this before. This video seems perfect, thanks. I’m missing one weight on governor, so hoping I can order it. This one has never been cleaned, so lots to do. My crank handle doesn’t wind at all, just spins. I’m guessing I’ve got a broken spring, but won’t know until I open this up. Fingers crossed.
My wife just got one Grafonola as a gift, it was her great grandmas, thinking is 1920's do you repair them? can we send it out and can you get us your cost to repair?, I'm a little nervous to do it my self , I'm pretty handy but just thinking how far along this has been in the family puts a lot a pressure.
Back then they called it RCA:Home Entertainment Center. It had a Color TV in the Center.
The style was called Mediterranean
A quality piece of audio equipment, not like the junk that gets crapped out of China on a weekly basis these days.

We have old one used to play. Yet I think it's been over cranked .. can this be repaired?
Great tutorial, made everything clear and concise!
Para que sirve la palanca, desde Perú
Nice set of videos. I have the older (Circa 1904) 2-spring motor from a Victor III, each spring housed in its own barrel. Also, mine has no speed indicator. I may need to replace the turntable spindle as it has a slight wobble, seemingly from a slight bend in the shaft. Motor was disassembled, cleaned and calibrated recently so no urgency to disassemble it right now.
Do you happen to know the size of the ball bearing that goes on top of the spindle… I’m rebuilding one just like yours but it didn’t have the ball bearing to begin with
After watching your videos, I am mad that I paid to have my first machine's motor done by someone else. Thanks for the education. An awesome thanks to you !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greetings I bought an old house and the was a vitrola player in it. Still works but is kind of slow. Can you send me an schematic to take it apart
I just watched what I am going to have to go through. This first video makes it look like fun. Thanks!!!!!
Thanks for all the videos! I just finished cleaning and reassembling my identical Victor Victrola VV-VI and I will say that I wouldn't even have attempted it without watching your videos.
Can't thank you enough for this series of videos, I just rebuilt my VV-90 (S/N: 67596) this weekend and it sounds great. Hope to come across another that I can refurbish in the future. What a great piece of functional history to own and enjoy.

I still have mine. But the TV, radio, record player and speakers need work.
The guy’s wife must have been crazy not allowing him to bring that fine vintage piece of electronics into the house
That was a great find. The tv can be upgraded to a thin flat screen tv. You won’t find parts for the old tv anymore. Just strip out the tv bezel and chassis and crt and a flat screen will fit nicely
Your videos have been extremely helpful to me on my project to repair my VV-90. The spring was severely overwound years ago resulting in the oval hole on the lower spring to become damaged causing the spring to slip during winding. I’m new to UA-cam but am wondering if you have a video which describes how to repair the end of a damaged spring. I haven’t been able to find one. Thank you for the videos which have enabled me to disassemble everything without breaking anything.
Very strange....I've been working on a VV-90 this week. It's the first machine I've worked on in 10 years! I have never re-drilled a hole in one of these springs. The springs are made with a tempered metal, and I imagine the holes were "punched" by machine. You might try a machine shop and see what they can do. I don't know what a new spring cost these days, if not much a new one would be your best option. victor-victrola.com/Part%20Suppliers.htm
I have a 1912 with the (a)after the number and it the same spring.
Best sounding coffin.
👍
The story so far
What do you do if you lost the ball bearing for the spinning arm?
This series shows how gramophones have precision that's also simple, for the most part they were built and designed in an era where reliability and maintainability was important. Reasons why me and other folks have been able to get them running with just a basic knowledge of mechanics and lubrication diagrams. I keep the mechanism in mine lubricated with Vaseline and 3 in 1 oil, why use other lubricants when it says what to use and it's worked for a very long time? (the vaseline and oil is only for the gearing inside and is not for the springs)
This is a very very big help to me thank you so much sir for posting such a series of videos on the victory trailer thank you great series I love it
Excellent video / tutorial. I have a VV-210 in working condition. It plays but does make the thumping noise you described from the motor. I plan to service it myself, having several years of antique radio repair experience, gunsmithing. Thanks for creating this video and sharing your knowledge. I had no idea how this Victrola motor operated. Thank you!
